Winner of the 2017 Barbara Novak Award for Personal Essay

It was a great week for writing! My essay, “Strip, Reveal and Sex Appeal,” which appeared in Ruth Daniell‘s book with Caitlin Press, “BOOBS: Women explore what it means to have breasts”, has won the 2017 Barbara Novak Award for Personal Essay with the Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC). This essay explored my foray into burlesque dancing after a knee injury and medical release from the Canadian Armed Forces.

Thank you to the Novak family for choosing my piece. This is the 2nd time I’ve won this award, previously for my essay “We Are a (Military) Family” in 2012, and I’m honoured to receive it today. Want to buy “Boobs” and read all about my boobs and the boobs of others? YOU DO! Check out Caitlin Press here.
