I’m so pleased to announce that I have won the House of Anansi Press Golden Anniversary Award for my short story, “Fluidity.” House of Anansi publishes some of my most favourite authors, like Lisa Moore and Zoe Whittal, so to be published alongside these women is an honour. The contest required writers to submit a story that surrounded the theme of Golden Anniversaries, as a means to celebrate Anansi’s 50 years of publishing great books.
I worked on “Fluidity” for several years, and when I saw this contest, I knew it was a good fit. The story will be released as an eBook with their digital imprint, available for free for one week for those who sign up for the newsletter.

Kelly S. Thompson’s short story “Fluidity” was selected as the winner by a jury composed of Anansi’s editorial staff. Fluidity tells the story of a couple coming to grips with a new reality when the husband reveals a lifelong secret about his identity on the eve of their 50th wedding anniversary.
“Of the nearly 75 contest submissions we received, ‘Fluidity’ felt the most timely and gripping,” said Douglas Richmond, Editor. “We’re thrilled to be working with Kelly as we celebrate 50 years of publishing.”
