I am so excited to announce that I have been awarded a two week independent residency at the Leighton Artists’ Colony at the Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta. It’s long been a dream of mine to go…who wouldn’t want a two week time to spend on writing, writing and some more writing?
The application process is rigorous. You have to submit a CV, description of your project, 3 reference letters, examples of your writing and an application form. The centre is open to all artists; writers, painters, singers, musicians, etc. There are nine studios available and artists are granted a quiet place, without the demands of daily life, to focus on their writing, all while staring at the beauty of the Rocky Mountains in a location that is nothing if not completely and totally humbling.
I’ll be in the Henriquez studio, named after the architect and designed from an old fishing boat, which now boats a bathroom, lay down area, small kitchen and of course, an area to write that next bestseller.

I’ll be going from 23 November – 5 December, and I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity. I can already picture schlepping through the snow with my computer under my arm! It’s not going to be a vacation, it’s going to be hard work, but no one ever said writing was easy. I’m going to write my little heart out.
